Cool Books Set in the UP

Firekeeper's Daughter is a coming-of-age story about Daunis Fontaine, who witnesses a murder and must participate in a criminal investigation into her community. This novel features local native politics, problems, and general culture of UP.

The Women Could Fly is a dystopian magical realist novel about Josephine Thomas, who refuses to get her state-mandated marriage at age 30, and instead searches for witches in the Upper Peninsula. The most magical elements happen deep into the UP, so I had to read it.

Marlena is a story that features two girls in a kinda toxic friendship and an eventful year they have in rural Michigan. This book really illuminates the problems  and drainage of living in a resource-scarce area.
